Skin Tag on Eyelid

The Facts About Skin Tags on An Eyelid

Skin tags are harmless growths of tissue that can occur almost anywhere on your body. Most of the time these skin tags can easily be removed by clipping them off or by tying a string around the base of them. However, when there is a skin tag on eyelid it can be difficult to find a safe removal method.

How do You Get Skin Tags on Eyelids?

What causes skin tags is not known. There could be a variety of factors that cause skin tags to grow on an individual’s eyelid. However, researchers theorize that skin tags could be caused by the HPV virus. This is the same virus that causes warts. Skin tags also appear where there is friction from skin rubbing against skin. An individual who rubs their eyes a lot could develop eyelid skin tags.

Heredity could play a major role in the development of skin tags. Parents who are prone to getting these small lumps of skin and tissue can pass this trait on to their children. If an individual has other underlying health issues such as diabetes, it will increase the risk for skin tag development.

What is the Best Way to Get Rid of Skin Tag on an Eyelid?

A skin tag on eyelid can be a challenge to get rid of. You can’t apply over the counter medication to the eye area because you could damage the eye. Clipping them off is not an option because it is too close to the eye. So what can you do?

The first option would be to see a doctor for removal. He will have instruments he can use to either freeze the skin tags off or burn them off with a cautery tool. This takes a steady hand to prevent damage to the eye.

The only problem with having a doctor remove skin tag on eyelid is cost. Most insurances will not cover the cost of skin tag removal. It could be expensive when you have to pay for it yourself.  You can also try a skin tag removal serum that claims to remove eyelid skin tags such as Amoils.
